Rebellious heiress Ellie Andrews marries King Westley, but her wealthy father has the union annulled and takes Ellie away on the family yacht. When Ellie decides to literally jump ship and go to New York City to find Westley.  On the way she meets charismatic reporter, Peter Warne. Warne recognizes Ellie and agrees to help reunite her with Westley if she will give him the exclusive story. As the two travel together misadventures develop into romantic feelings, but who will Ellie choose in the end?
